We constructed three rain gardens and five underground infiltration basins at La Salle University in 2015 and 2016. The largest rain garden is almost 13,000 square feet in surface area and the gardens were planted with 90 trees and 587 shrubs. The largest underground basin is 7,500 square feet in size and is buried almost 12 feet below the ground surface. The first inch of rain from almost 14 acres of roofs and parking lots, almost 500,000 gallons for each rain event, is being infiltrated into the ground. The effort currently is saving the University almost $65,000 in annual stormwater fees.
